Korean Americans Hates Marriage The Most

SF Weekly
By Peter Jamison, Tue., Jul. 20 2010 @ 1:11PM

...Korean Americans disapprove of same-sex marriage by a margin of 70 to 25 percent. They were followed in their dislike of same-sex couples by Vietnamese Americans (64 percent disapproval) and Chinese Americans (54 percent disapprove.)

...Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo said that while it's clear Asian Americans are the group most opposed to same-sex marriage -- and Koreans foremost among Asians -- the results also depend heavily on the age of those questioned. Younger voters, he said, show stronger support for gay marriage than older people "coming from traditional societies."

Darren Criss is Asian!!!

Well, he is half Filipino, which technically still makes him Asian in my book. So that makes it a total of 6 Asians who are currently or have been on Glee.

1. Tina
2. Mike Chang
3. Principal Figgins
4. Ken Tanaka
5. Sunshine Corazon
6. Blaine

Let's keep them coming Ryan Murphy! How about a Gaysian next time? It could be me!

Bye bye Lynn Hilary...:-(

I have had the most incredible experience with Celtic Woman. I feel so lucky to have had the privilege of being able to call myself a Celtic Woman if only for three short years. However I have grown to miss Ireland and my life there more and more, so I’ve decided to take my leave while the going is good. I will miss all my friends terribly and especially three very special ladies; Mairead Nesbitt, Chloe Agnew and Lisa Kelly, whom after the hectic year we have all had I will now always think of as “Super-Women” as opposed to Celtic Women!! I will never forget the warmth and acceptance that I experienced from them and from the fans on my arrival and on filling such big shoes. Thanks also to the fans for making this whole experience all the more colourful! I also want to take this opportunity to thank the amazing Celtic Woman team behind the scenes, they work so hard and have been integral in making Celtic Woman the fabulous success that is has been and I know will continue to be.

Peace and Love,

Fraser Walters

Fraser Walters is a member of the pop and classic music singing group The Canadian Tenors. In my opinion, he has the best voice out of the group (there are four members.) His voice is just so soothing and smooth and it flows well from note to note. On top of all of that, he is damn good looking too. I'm not sure if he's married or has a significant/other, but he looks to me like the ultimate catch.

Andrew Shirvell FIRED!

(Detroit Free Press) - Andrew Shirvell, the assistant attorney general under fire for his attacks on a University of Michigan student, has been fired.

A hearing that was supposed to be held Tuesday was moved up to this afternoon. Philip Thomas, Shirvell's attorney, said he showed up for the meeting and was read one sentence.

"They said essentially that as a result of Andrew's conduct, it's become impossible for him to carry out his duties as an attorney general."

Shirvell had been criticized for his blog in which he calls Chris Armstrong, the president of the Michigan Student Assembly, a radical homosexual, a Nazi and Satan's representative on the assembly. Thomas had said his client is expressing his free-speech rights.

"To be clear, I refuse to fire anyone for exercising their First Amendment rights, regardless of how popular or unpopular their positions might be. However, Shirvell repeatedly violated office policies, engaged in borderline stalking behavior, and inappropriately used state resources, our investigation showed."

Among the examples cited by Cox in the statement:

*Showed up at the home of a private citizen three times, including once at 1:30 a.m. That incident is especially telling because it clearly was about harassing Mr. Armstrong, not engaging in free speech.

*Further engaged in behavior that, while not perhaps sufficient to charge criminal stalking, was harassing, uninvited and showed a pattern that was in the everyday sense, stalking.

*Harassing Armstrong's friends as they were socializing in Ann Arbor;

*Numerous calls to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office, Armstrong's employer, in an attempt to slander Armstrong - and ultimately attempting to cause Pelosi to fire Armstrong;

*Attempting to "out" Armstrong's friends as homosexual - several of whom were not gay.

Cox said Shirvell engaged in his campaign against Shirvell on company time and posted attacks on Armstrong on the Internet while at work.

"Finally, Shirvell lied to investigating assistant attorneys general on several occasions during his disciplinary hearing."

Glee covers "Teenage Dream"

Looks like the newest member to the GLEE cast, Darren Criss, will be getting off to a good start on the show. He and the rest of his posse (not sure what to call them) will be covering Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream." I also hear that Darren's character will be gay. It looks like he'll become a love interest for Kurt.

Bye bye Limewire

Limewire Shut Down by Court - Empire State Tribune

Timothy Olyphant

You know...I didn't know that Timothy Olyphant was THE hitman in the movie, Hitman. And he's the male lead in my favorite movie of ALL time: The Broken Hearts Club.

Doesn't even look like him, does it? He's bald!

Glamour's Woman of the Year: Constance McMillen

Remember when that girl that wasn't allowed to take her girlfriend to prom, the school "cancelled" the prom, held a secret prom somewhere else for all the straight people, she found out, sued and won $116, 000? Well, she's Glamour magazine's Woman of the Year...That's what's up.

Melissa Etheridge tells Glamour that McMillen is a woman of the year because, “She stood up and said, ‘This is who I am.’ When someone does that, it changes the world. It gives hope.”

This is me...now

So...I haven't blogged about anything in a long time.

When I say long time...LONG TIME.

My last post was August 30th? Yeah...two full months of absolutely nothing.

I apologize if you read my blog. If you occasionally do, well, I apologize too. If no one is reading this...FU. Haha, just kidding. Seriously. Okay. I guess I'll update you all on my life.

2/3 of the fall semester is already over. Can you believe it? It's been such a rough semester that I haven't even taken time to notice the time. Honestly, this has been one of the roughest semesters I've had. It's been challenginng on many levels. Professionally, academically, and on a personal level too. At this point in my life, I'm ready for a break. You know? I've been going and going and going non-stop. Life just needs to slow down. Or better yet, STOP. I need to take the time to do me. I mean I did a lot of that this summer, but I worked. I did a lot of it already this semester too, but I'm still in school.

That's why I think I'll be waiting to go into grad school. Instead, I've decided to apply for the l'assistant de langue program in France. If I get accepted, I'll be a teaching assistant for an English teacher in either elementary, middle or high school. This is a wonderful opportunity that I might not be able to do again after grad school. It only makes sense that I do while I still can. Grad school will still be here when I get back. Going to France may never happen again for me.

I'm the kind of person who likes change. Especially when it comes to scenery and environment. I love Grand Valley, but I'm done. My soul, heart and mind are in a different place. It's been like that for a while now. It's just taken me a little time to realize that I need to move on to something else.

An Ally's Promise

I believe…

I believe success is the freedom to be yourself.

I believe nobody is wrong they are only different.

I believe your circumstances don’t define you, rather they reveal you.

I believe without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community.

I believe our minds are like parachutes.

They only work if they are open.

I believe we only live life once, but if we live it right, one time is all we’ll need.

I believe we must first get along with ourselves before we can get along with others.

I will…

I will seek to understand you.

I will label bottles, not people.

I will grow antennas not horns.

I will see the diversity of our commonality.

I will see the commonality of our diversity.

I will get to know who you are rather than what you are.

I will transcend political correctness and strive for human righteousness.

I challenge you…

I challenge you to honor who you are.

I challenge you to enjoy your life rather then endure it.

I challenge you to create the status quo rather than accept it.

I challenge you to live in your imagination more than your memory.

I challenge you to live your life as a revolution and not just a process of evolution.

I challenge you to ignore other people’s ignorance so that you may discover your own wisdom.

I promise you…

I promise to do my part.

I promise to stand beside you.

I promise to interrupt the world when its thinking becomes ignorant.

I promise to believe in you, even when you have lost faith in yourself.

I am here for you.

BREAKING NEWS: Elizabeth Hasselback Supports Gay Marriage

The New Civil Rights Movement
by CALEB EIGSTI on AUGUST 17, 2010

"I am not ultra-ultra-conservative on every issue. I actually support gay marriage."

"...There are a lot of, maybe, conservatives out there who are talking about gay marriage and not necessarily with someone who wants to have gay marriage or has been in a gay marriage. You know, I had Melissa Etheridge over, we had dinner, we talked for hours about gay marriage, and I would really challenge people: Get out there. Instead of just talking about it and hating on it, actually talk to someone who’s loved someone else and have the conversation about what can be done…"

Yay Mexico!

By DAVID AGREN
Published: August 10, 2010

The Mexican Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that each of the country’s 31 states must recognize same-sex marriages registered in Mexico City, potentially giving gay and lesbian couples full matrimonial rights nationwide.

While the court made it clear that state governments were not obligated to enact same-sex marriage laws of their own, it did require them to recognize the legality of such marriages performed in Mexico City.

“What’s going to happen to a same-sex couple, who marry in Mexico City, when they cross the border to another state," asked Justice Arturo Zaldívar, who voted with the majority, during Tuesday’s discussions. “Does this marriage disappear? They go on vacation and they’re no longer married?”

The court decision leaves uncertainty about which marital rights must be recognized by state governments. But Arturo Pueblita Fernández, a constitutional law professor at the Ibero-American University in Mexico City, said that fundamental spousal rights would apply to same-sex couples across the country, including alimony payments, inheritance rights and the coverage of spouses by the federal social security system, which provides health and pension benefits to most of Mexico’s working population.

Uh oh...Apple...

A bus that drives over cars!

The model looks like a subway or light-rail train bestriding the road. It is 4-4.5 m high with two levels: passengers board on the upper level while other vehicles lower than 2 m can go through under. Powered by electricity and solar energy, the bus can speed up to 60 km/h carrying 1200-1400 passengers at a time without blocking other vehicles' way. Also it costs about 500 million yuan to build the bus and a 40-km-long path for it, only 10% of building equivalent subway. It is said that the bus can reduce traffic jams by 20-30%.

The Canadian Tenors

So I was surfing the internet and came across this wonderful group called the Canadian Tenors. They're a classical and pop vocal quartet consisting of Remigio Pereira, Victor Micallef, Fraser Walters, and Clifton Murray. I listened to them sing "Hallelujah" (below) and I got chills up and down my spine. I know what I like and what I don't and THIS, I like :)

Clifton was in the movie "She's The Man" and played along side Channing Tatum as one of his buddies.

PROP 8 = UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!!

(CNN) -- A federal judge in California on Wednesday struck down the state's ban on same-sex marriage, ruling that voter-approved Proposition 8 violates the U.S. Constitution -- handing supporters of gay rights a major victory in a case that both sides say is sure to wind up before the U.S. Supreme Court.

A Summer of Learning

For my internship, I was asked to write a reflection paper on my time and experience at the University of Illinois. In doing so, I realized something about myself. I learned, relearned and most importantly, unlearned. A lot. This past winter semester, I lost a lot of myself. I drifted further and further away from who I truly was. Bridges were burned. I isolated myself form people. I put my focus into one person, who is no longer a part of my life. My priorities were all out of order. I strayed away from what was important to me. My academics. My job. My FRIENDS. MY FAMILY. But, most importantly: myself. I just can't believe all of that happened within one semester. And this summer was the time I had to pick up the pieces and put them back together.I am incredibly, blessed to have such wonderful friends who will be there no matter what, even when the times are rough. I just apologize for being such a terrible friend. Looking back on this past semester, I am proud that I have the ability to admit my wrongs and change for the better. Not only for myself, but also for those around me especially the friends that stuck around. Although I will be returning to the mess that I left behind, I know in my heart that my friends will still be there. BUT THIS TIME, I won't abandon them like before. What a semester it was...

Another Live-Action Mulan Set To Be Filmed

July 30, 2010 | by Sandy Schaefer

The ancient tale of Mulan will be brought to the big screen once again in an English-language 3D film that is being funded by Walt Disney Pictures and produced by Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi.

Disney – which released an animated version of the story back in 1998 – has agreed to invest $100 million into the project, which will be directed by Charles Russel (The Scorpion King). Not too shockingly, Zhang is set to star in the lead role as well.

Mulan tells the story of the titular young woman, whose elderly father is ordered to return to military duty when external forces invade their Chinese homeland. The spirited gal chooses to instead impersonate a man and take her father’s place in the army – an act for which she could be executed, should she be discovered.

Help and a potential love interest arrives in the form of General Li, who risks his own life to protect Mulan and prevent her from being exposed. Singer-actor Wang Lee Hom is being pursued for the live-action role.

Ziyi is best known in the U.S. for her turns in martial arts films like Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and filmmaker Zhang Yimou’s Hero and House of Flying Daggers (see below). It doesn’t exactly require a stretch of the imagination to envision her in the role of the lady warrior, Mulan.

Christian & Oliver: McFly - "The Heart Never Lies"

First Asian American & Asian American Woman Nominated to Lead California Supreme Court

By John | Monday, July 26, 2010

This past week, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger nominated 3rd District Court of Appeal Justice Tani Gorre Cantil-Sakauye as the next chief justice, replacing in January retiring Chief Justice Ronald George. This will make Cantil-Sakauye the first Asian American to lead the state’s judiciary and give the California Supreme Court a female majority for the first time in its history. On the current court, this will make her the second Asian American on the bench behind current Associate Justice Ming W. Chin.

“According to several biographies, Cantil-Sakauye comes from humble roots. Her Filipina mother was a farmworker, and her Filipino-Portuguese father, born in Hawaii, worked in sugar cane and pineapple plantations before moving to Sacramento. She is a Republican, is married to a Sacramento police lieutenant and has two children.”

The most notable California Supreme court ruling in recent years has their dealing with the same sex marriage issue and Proposition 8. I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more from Cantil-Sakauye on that issue as well as much more in the near future.

Target's $150,000 Donation To Fund Anti-Gay Politics

by Michael A. Jones July 25, 2010 04:14 AM (PT)

Target, practically everyone's favorite discount retail store, is headquartered in Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes. But along with precious bodies of water, Minnesota is home to some pretty rabid anti-gay politicians and groups. Among them include Tom Emmer. And Target, it seems, is apparently filling his campaign coffers with nearly $150,000.

Follow the money. At least, that's the message delivered by an article at sfist.com by Matt Baume, who tracks $150,000 from Target's coffers, through a political action committee (PAC) known as Minnesota Forward, all the way to Tom Emmer, who himself supports a Christian rock band in Minnesota that travels around the state saying that it's moral and righteous for religious people to kill gays and lesbians.

For those into algebra, it looks a little like this: Target + Minnesota Forward + Tom Emmer = Support for a rather dangerous and radical political philosophy that diminishes LGBT people to pests that should be murdered. And Target is cool with this?

Tom Emmer has made it pretty clear where he stands on the issue of LGBT rights.

"I believe marriage is the union between one man and one woman," Emmer says on his Web site. "As a legislator, I have consistently supported the constitutional marriage amendment that protects traditional marriage."

OK, perhaps you're saying that while it's not great that Emmer is so anti- marriage equality, he's no different than many within American politics. Perhaps that's true. But it's Emmer's affiliation with a Christian right rock band, You Can Run But You Cannot Hide, that should not only have Target's head spinning, but all of ours, too.

You Can Run But You Cannot Hide is fronted by a man named Bradlee Dean. And Tom Emmer is a buddy-buddy with Dean and his band. "These are nice people," Emmer said of the band, who have appeared at various Minnesota GOP functions, from statewide conventions to political candidate soirées.

But here's what Bradlee Dean has said about LGBT people.

"Muslims are calling for the executions of homosexuals in America. This just shows you they themselves are upholding the laws that are even in the Bible of the Judeo-Christian God, but they seem to be more moral than even the American Christians do, because these people are livid about enforcing their laws. They know homosexuality is an abomination," Dean previously said.

And there's more. "[Homosexuals] play the victim when they are, in fact, the predator. On average, they molest 117 people before they’re found out. How many kids have been destroyed, how many adults have been destroyed because of crimes against nature?" Yup, that's another Dean comment.

Meanwhile, Emmer continues to call these folks 'nice.' Talk about a pretty effed up definition of 'nice.'

So why wouldn't Target take better care to make sure their money wasn't going to someone who absolutely abhors LGBT equality, and hangs around people who believes it's sweet for gay people to be slaughtered? After all, Target does have a number of gay-friendly policies, including domestic partner benefits. And it remains quite popular among the LGBT retail crowd.

But is their support from the gay community deserved? Especially if they're dropping six figures down on candidates working hard to keep LGBT people second class citizens?

Majority of Californians Now Support Gay Marriage?

By Zach Behrens in News on July 20, 2010 10:14 AM

In 2008, Prop 8 banned gay marriage in California when voters narrowly -- 52% to 48% -- approved it at the ballot box. Today, the Field Poll finds (.pdf) that Californians are trending towards more acceptance of gay marriage.

A survey of 1,390 registered voters in California concluded that "by a 51% to 42% margin, the overall California electorate supports allowing same-sex couples to marry and having regular marriage laws apply to them." 7% had no opinion.

But when those surveyed were then given a choice of three alternatives, the results changed. 44% were okay with allowing same-sex couples to marry, 34% were only okay with allowing civil unions but not same-sex marriage and 19% favored granting no legal recognition to same-sex relationships.

A 1977 Field Poll about gay marriage -- survey participants were both registered and non registered voters back then -- found that 28% favored gay marriage awhile 59% opposed it. Polls taken since then have shown an upward growth of acceptance.

Results of the recent poll show that the younger the age group, the more accepting of gay marriage. 68% of 18 to 29-year-olds approve of gay marriage while 42% of the 62 or older group approved it.

51% of L.A. County approves of gay marriage with 38% disapproving. San Francisco is 63% in favor. As for party alignments, 68% of Democrats approve of it while only 26% of Republicans do.

“The poll also confirms that members of the Latino community are very open to the message of equality," said Equality California’s Marriage Director Marc Solomon of the race/ethnicity results. 53% and 50% of Whites and Latinos approve of gay marriage.

But other race/ethnicity groupings were mostly against gay marriage: African-American (38% for gay marriage), Chinese-American (41% for), Korean-American (25% for) and Vietnamese-American (32%). Solomon said EQCA will be stepping up their work in communities of color as they build support for a campaign to legalize gay marriage in 2012.
